Photogrammetry is the use of photography in mapping and surveying to record accurate measurements between objects. and with modern lightweight drones, capable of recording HD images, this is relatively easy.
The drone is programmed to fly over a defined area and record hundreds of high resolution aerial images. These are then stitched together using sophisticated software to produce a geo-referenced photograph which can be overlaid onto Google Maps.
